My office recently put me in charge of our document/data destruction. I’m looking for three high quality office duty shredders. We have purchased shredders from an office supply store, and we have found that these shredders are not very durable and have not lasted. How would I go about finding a high quality office paper shredder?  More

You’re not the only office that has had to dispose poorly made shredders. If you’re looking for high quality office paper shredders, then you should definitely check out http://www.whitakerbrothers.com. One of their salespeople once told me that they regularly test the latest in data destruction machines, including all types of shredders. These guys know their stuff. I would recommend a shredder that is German engineered and constructed. The shredders from Whitaker Brothers are German made with cutting heads and gears made from solid steel. These things are meant to last. If you’re looking for a reference, their shredders are used extensively by the U.S. Government and are shipped all over the world. I would recommend one of their continuous duty shredders, but there is a wide range of shredder sizes and models out there.  More

I'm looking at the Fellowes shredder and it says it can shred 8 pages, 10-20 times per day. Why is there a limit? It's a mechanical device. Why does it care?  More

Because they are cheaply made. The motor and gears will give out faster with time left on the warranty.  More

I was wondering if file shredders actually save hard drive space on my computer, or whether they will just scramble files.  More

The action of deleting a file "tells" the computer the space it occupies is available for re-use but the information is still there until written over. This can be all or in part much like recording on a pre-recorded tape. Some of the information can still be accessed. "Shredding" a file replaces all the information with random code thereby destroying it. Either method frees up space for re-use.  More

This is to all those who are fairly good at electric guitar, the shredders amongst you! Ive been playing 10 years and am mainy into metal. Im fairly competent at soloing to a high level and all the widdly widdly stuff (sweeps included) but i cant get to that next level. No matter how often i practice (sometimes 6 hrs a day) ive stopped getting better and my playing is too inconsistent. Any tips from those who have been there?  More

I have been playing for a very long time, prob 15 years or more. I took probably about 6 lessons from Paul Gilbert in a private setting and it cost me quite a lot of money a long time ago. he agreed to do it because at one of his shows I slipped him a demo tape of my first band Apparition (we were a thrash/ progressive) and he saw a lot of potential in me and it paid off in the long run. when I first started playing guitar I practiced about 8 - 10 hours a day, because my main priority at the time was shredding. I made it to a really high level but later started loosing interest in shredding and got more interested in "metal riffing" and putting groove in my song writing, and now shredding is secondary priority. this is me doing a shred thing I wrote that I am going to put on my up and coming metal project. if you are interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDb2Lnw34I it’s pretty simple actually. and its poor sound because I just wanted it down on recording so I wouldn’t forget it. you want to start practicing arpeggio sweeps very slow, this includes ascending and descending. then you probably want to expand on your sweeps by adding 8th, 16th and 32nd note alternate picking. then you want to explore extended taping on arpeggios after that start slow with those as well. when it comes to alternate picking on scales and runs you want to do the same, start slow with 8th notes, then 16th, then 32nd notes which is a shred level. take your time and don’t rush it, as you continue to practice you will get better and then things will just happen naturally. let me give you some stuff here to start out with. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/guitar_techniques/sweep_picking_arpeggios.html http://www.guitar-dreams.com/guitarlessons-req-view_fulllesson-lessonid-21.html http://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=3689 http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/452359/guitar_exercises_for_beginners.html http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/guitar_techniques/alternate_picking_technique.html http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/scales/scales_for_beginners.html  More
