I'm in the market for a good blender. In reading Consumer Reports, they rated a Kitchen Aid excellent for purees and very good for smoothies. They rated a Braun blender exactly the opposite of the KitchenAid (very good for purees, excellent for smoothies). Isn't the ability to puree or smoothie the same thing?  More

No, not the same. Smoothie refers specifically to very thick drinks, often containing ice, that will load the motor heavily. I suggest you take a look at VitaMix units, too. We have one that we've used for something like 10 years. Yes, it was expensive. But it's got a BIG honkin' motor, handles both wet and dry stuff, and I have yet to come up with something it won't grind up.  More

I am considering the purchase of a personal blender. Currently I spend about $4.50 a day on a smoothie at the restaurant in my workplace. I'd like to make these myself since I stay full longer and really enjoy the convience of a shake. There are so many brands available and I was curious as to your experiences and what you might suggest as the blender to buy. So far I've heard of: Tribest Personal Blender Bella Cucina Rocket Blender Maxi-Matic Elite Cuisine Magic Bullet Any help?  More

Avoid the HULK HOGAN THUNDER MIXER. It is useless.  More

Just wondering if the spiciness will get into the baby food. Or is there a way to clean or de-sterilise the blender after grinding the chilli paste?  More
Asked by:  newbieMom
Sure you can if you wash it out, or if the baby asks for chili. You can add warm soapy water to the blender and turn it on. You do not want so much water or soap that it foams up and creates a mess. Blenders clean themselves very well this way. If the baby sits up and exclaims there is a chili taste to my food, repeat the washing and call Ripleys.  More

I live in Ottawa, Canada. The rubber washer (ring) for my blender is so old and misshapen that it doesn't seal any more. The rest of the blender is perfectly good, so I don't want to buy a new one, just a new rubber ring. They seem to cost about $1 online, but shipping is more than that and I can't find a supplier that will ship to Canada. My blender is a standard blender (i.e., fits Mason jars) so I think any "brand" of ring for a standard sized blender will do. Aside from buying a used blender at a second-hand shop and using its ring, where can I buy just a ring? (answers that allow me to replace my rubber washer honestly preferred)  More

If you find a suitable gasket on a new model, and if that manufacturer ships to Canada, you should be able to order it from them as a replacement part.  More
